在美国大学申请中，文书分为主文书（Personal Statement，俗称PS）和补充文书（Supplemental Essay）两种。

这些补充文书也被称为附加文书或小文书。许多知名学府都会有补充文书的要求。不同学校的具体要求会有所不同，但字数限制通常在150到200字左右，也有一些可能超过400字，几乎和主申请文书的字数相近。

补充文书为你提供了与招生官进一步交流的机会。切勿因为它是“补充”文书就草率对待。它的目标是使招生官能够更全面地了解申请人的档案。
